Careers at Sover: Build Communications a Nation Can Own

Sover builds a communications platform that a government installs on its own infrastructure and runs under its own law. Every design decision has to hold up to that, which is a harder and more interesting constraint.

The Company

About a Hundred People, Most of Them Technical

Sover is built by a distributed team of about 100 people, more than 50 of them in engineering and data science. The team is shared with IREX (opens in a new tab). Sover and IREX are related parties. They share one team, and Sover is majority-owned by IREX co-founder Nik Ptitsyn.

The mission is sovereign communications for people and AI agents, under the law of the nation that runs them. Sover is a user-hosted platform for messaging, voice and video calls and workplace collaboration, deployed on the customer’s own infrastructure with the Sover Private Cloud included, and not a public multi-tenant cloud service.

The platform carries real traffic. Its reference is a confidential government deployment: 5+ years, 50,000+ active users, 1,000+ messages per second. That is a strong reason to care about every message, call and sign-in.

Where We Hire

One team builds Sover and IREX. These are the functions it hires into.

  1. Engineering

Back end, front end and UX, DevOps and support engineering, on clients for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and the web.

  2. AI and Agents

Voice-call transcription and conversation summaries, and the MCP and chatbot APIs through which AI agents take part in conversations under the customer’s security policy.

  3. Security and Identity

Encryption in transit and at rest, end-to-end encrypted secret chats, mandatory two-factor authentication, role-based access control and audit logging.

  4. Deployment and Operations

Solution design, sizing and delivery on the customer’s own servers, Kubernetes cluster or virtual machines, and federation between independent instances.

  5. Go to Market

Business development with governments and regulated organizations, pre-sales engineering, RFP and tender answers and local partner networks.

  6. Business Analysis

Requirements, specifications and the documentation that turns what a customer needs into what the platform ships.

What We Hold To

Working Here, Honestly

  1. Mission first, stated plainly. Sovereign communications for people and AI agents, under the law of the nation that runs them. The customer sets the policy; Sover supplies the platform and the controls.

  2. Sovereignty by design. The platform installs on infrastructure the customer owns or chooses, and the customer runs it under its own policies. The source code can be licensed and the apps released under the customer’s own name and brand.

  3. Ethics and privacy first. Sover neither owns nor accesses customer messages. That is a statement of record, and it shapes the architecture you would work on.

  4. We state our limits. Sover holds no formal certification, and its threat model lists what the platform does not defend against. We say so when we are asked. If that habit annoys you, this will be a poor fit.

  5. We know our clients. Sover runs background checks on prospective clients and projects, and declines business with parties it judges high-risk in relation to data collection and security. Nobody here is asked to build for a customer the company would not defend.

What does Sover build, and for whom?

A sovereign unified-communications platform for governments and regulated organizations that need control over their communications infrastructure and data. The buyers are government and public-sector bodies, law enforcement, critical-infrastructure operators and regulated enterprises, and their questions concern control over hosting, organizational access, communication between organizations and integration with operational systems.

Which roles are open now?

Country Manager: build a Sover country business with market expertise, AI agents and specialist support, reporting to the CEO with no direct reports. We publish a role only when it is genuinely open.

How large is the team?

About 100 people, more than 50 of them in engineering and data science, distributed and shared with IREX. Sover and IREX are related parties. They share one team, and Sover is majority-owned by IREX co-founder Nik Ptitsyn.

Is Sover an AI-native company?

AI agents are part of the product and part of the work. In the product, agents connect through MCP and the chatbot APIs and act for users only within the customer’s security policy. In the work, the team’s knowledge base is version-controlled and written so that agents can ground their output in it, with a person reviewing and owning what ships.

Are roles remote?

The team is distributed by default. Each role states its location and travel expectations.
